A newborn baby was pulled alive from the rubble of a collapsed building 32 hours after two powerful earthquakes devastated Venezuela.
A video obtained by Agence France-Presse (AFP) shows rescue workers operating under floodlights atop a mountain of debris as they carefully pull the infant to safety late last night in La Guaira, the city hardest hit by the disaster.
The footage captures rescuers passing the baby, wrapped in a blanket, from one person to another before gently cleaning the child with tissues. According to the social media user who shared the video, the infant—just 18 days old—was found alive after spending 32 hours trapped beneath the rubble. The baby’s mother was rescued one hour later.
At least 920 people have been killed following the two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, that struck northern Venezuela on Wednesday. Thousands more have been injured, while more than 50,000 people remain missing.
