A scheduled illegal migrant return flight took place yesterday, Tuesday 15th, organised by the Hellenic Police and coordinated by FRONTEX.
A total of 40 Pakistani nationals and 10 Georgian nationals, whose applications for international protection had been definitively rejected, were deported.
The Asylum Service of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum proceeded to expeditiously examine all subsequent requests submitted by detainees in the last 48 hours at the Amygdaleza Pre-Removal Immigration Detention Center, ensuring that the procedures proceeded in full respect of the institutional framework.
Greece continues to consistently apply a strict but fair immigration policy, offering asylum only to those who qualify and meet international protection criteria. For those who are not entitled to international protection, the only option remaining is voluntary repatriation or, where necessary, administrative detention until the completion of the return procedure.
“Our message and targeting is clear. If you are not entitled to asylum your only option is return,” wrote Migration and Asylum Minister Thanos Plevris in X.
