The Hong Kong privacy protection agency said today it is investigating a personal data leak at Louis Vuitton that affected some 419,000 customers, shortly after a cyberattack on the luxury goods brand in South Korea in June.

The leaked data includes names, passport details, home and email addresses, shopping history and product preferences, according to an emailed statement from Hong Kong’s Privacy Commissioner.

Louis Vuitton submitted the personal data breach incident to the agency on July 17.

The company’s headquarters in France found suspicious activity on its computer system on June 13 and then found on July 2 that it had also affected customers in Hong Kong, the statement said.

The agency said it has launched an investigation into Louis Vuitton Hong Kong, which will also look into whether the incident involved late notice.

It clarified that so far it has not received any complaints or requests in this regard.

The incident comes after a systems breach at Louis Vuitton in South Korea in June that led to the leak of some customer data, including contact information, but did not include customer financial information, the company said.

Louis Vuitton did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
