Tension in Parliament: Verbal exchange between Konstantopoulou and Lambroulis – Session interrupted

A tense moment occurred in the Greek Parliament during a plenary session, involving Zoi Konstantopoulou, and Deputy Speaker Giorgos Lambroulis

Newsroom July 22 02:22

The disagreement began when Konstantopoulou referred to the President of the Republic in a way that Lambroulis considered inappropriate. He reminded her that, according to the Parliament’s rules, such references are not acceptable, regardless of political disagreement.

Konstantopoulou requested to speak on a personal matter, but Lambroulis responded that there was no personal issue to address. A back-and-forth followed:

  • Konstantopoulou: “We remained in the room. Your party walked out. I request to speak on a personal matter.”
  • Lambroulis: “There is no personal matter here.”
  • Konstantopoulou: “Don’t talk over me, sir.”
  • Lambroulis: “You need to explain why this is a personal matter.”
  • Konstantopoulou: “What kind of tone is this, Mr. Lambroulis?”
  • Lambroulis: “You are politically unethical. I suspend the session and leave you to the judgment of the Greek people.”

Following this exchange, Lambroulis stepped down from the Speaker’s chair, ending the session.
