The biggest change is ending military service in the Air Force and Navy. From January 2026, all new conscripts will serve exclusively in the Army, according to the second phase of the armed forces’ reorganization.
This reform is one of the biggest changes in Greece’s military in decades. The goal is to better manage personnel, improve readiness, and reduce costs.
The plan also includes merging more than 30 units and making use of freed-up bases.
Soldiers’ pay will increase by up to 20%, with raises between 50 and 100 euros based on set criteria like financial, social, or operational needs. This is part of a bigger package of financial incentives for both conscripts and professional soldiers.
Earlier, active military personnel already received raises between 13% and 20%, depending on rank and position.
