Mossad Director David Barnea is in Doha for meetings with Qatar‘s leader, Emir bin Hamad al-Thani, to discuss a new ceasefire agreement and the release of remaining hostages in Gaza, according to Channel 12.
The news comes as Israel, Hamas and mediators between the two sides are making efforts to restart negotiations after the failure of the last round of talks in July. Benjamin Netanyahu‘s government subsequently approved plans to invade Gaza City.
This week, Israel, Hamas, the U.S. and some Middle Eastern countries held meetings to discuss a deal that could end the 22-month war and free the 50 hostages held by terrorist groups in Gaza, at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive.
Channel 12 reported yesterday that Israel is considering sending a negotiating team to Doha.
Today, an Arabic newspaper, citing unnamed sources, reported that Hamas told Egypt that it is offering to withdraw its fighters to agreed locations and “reaffirm its commitment to keep the hostages alive” in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli troops, an end to the war and the abandonment of any plans to take over
Channel 12 reports that in his meeting with Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Barnea was to stress that Israel is not bluffing with its plan to conquer Gaza and that it intends to do so unless there is progress in talks to free the hostages.
