Businessman Vangelis Mitrogiannis publicly expressed his support for his good friend and best man, Giorgos Mazonakis, following the singer’s recent admission to the “Dromokaitio” psychiatric hospital. As became known on August 14, Giorgos Mazonakis was admitted to the hospital by prosecutorial order, where he remains.
According to published information, relatives of the singer appeared in the morning at the Vari–Vouliagmeni police station, carrying the prosecutorial order, and gave statements. Police officers then went to his home in the southern suburbs and transferred him to Dromokaitio, which was on duty that day.
In a statement issued via his lawyer, the artist claimed that his transfer to the psychiatric facility was carried out “with deceit” by his family, with the aim, he says, of “his physical elimination” and “serving selfish interests.”
Vangelis Mitrogiannis, whom Giorgos Mazonakis had previously married to actress Alexandra Palaiologou, openly declared his support for him, expressing his belief that members of the singer’s family are trying to undermine him.

“It is known to everyone that certain members of Giorgos Mazonakis’s family are trying to destroy him. The whole truth is apparent in the statement made by his lawyers.”

“On behalf of my client Giorgos Mazonakis, I declare to you that my temporary confinement in a public facility was carried out without my knowledge and without my consent. Suddenly this morning, returning from my morning swim to my home, I was met with an unpleasant surprise — specifically, a patrol car of the Hellenic Police that requested to transfer me, by prosecutorial order, to a public psychiatric facility for examination.
According to the law, when one or more persons from the immediate family (first or second degree) submit a request to the prosecutor that their relative requires psychiatric hospitalization because they suffer from a mental disorder, the prosecutor orders the temporary transfer of the person alleged to be a patient to a public psychiatric facility.
Certain persons from my immediate family, with whom I am in legal dispute and was preparing in early September to file lawsuits for serious felony offenses, have literally wrapped me up in a sheet of paper. This scheme and fabrication against me was carried out today, on the eve of August 15th, knowing that tomorrow is a holiday and the weekend intervenes.
I express my outrage at this vile, malicious, and orchestrated attempt at my physical elimination, with the sole aim of serving their selfish interests. Napoleon said: ‘The victor is not the one who starts the war, but the one who prevails.’
