Yesterday (14/8), Giorgos Mazonakis was admitted to a public psychiatric clinic on duty. His admission was carried out under a prosecutor’s order initiated by his father and sister, following an evaluation by two psychiatrists, as required by this specific procedure. However, through his lawyer, he claims that his confinement took place without his knowledge and accuses his family members of “wrapping him up in a piece of paper.”
In the coming days, he is expected to be transferred to a private psychiatric clinic, following a related request. The exact reasons for his hospitalization have not been officially disclosed.
It should be noted that the singer was performing at Fever during the winter of 2025.
Mazonakis’ First Reaction
The first reaction from Giorgos Mazonakis’ side regarding his admission to a public psychiatric clinic came through the singer’s lawyer.

“On behalf of my client, Giorgos Mazonakis, I state that my temporary confinement in a public facility was done without my knowledge and without my consent. Suddenly this morning, returning from my morning swim to my home, I was met with an unpleasant surprise – specifically, a patrol car of the Hellenic Police, which informed me that, by order of the prosecutor, I was to be transferred to a public psychiatric facility for examination.
According to the law, when one or more persons from a patient’s close family circle (first or second degree) submit a request to the prosecutor stating that their relative requires psychiatric hospitalization due to suffering from a mental disorder, the prosecutor orders the temporary transfer of the alleged patient to a public psychiatric facility.
I was literally wrapped up in a piece of paper by members of my close family circle, with whom I am in legal dispute, and I was preparing, in early September, to file lawsuits for serious criminal offenses of a felony nature. This scheme and fabricated situation against me was orchestrated today, on the eve of the Dormition holiday, given that tomorrow is a public holiday and the weekend follows.
I express my outrage at this vile, malicious, and calculated attempt at my physical extermination, solely to serve their own self-interests. Napoleon used to say: ‘The winner is not the one who starts the war, but the one who prevails.’

Estrangement from His Family
In May 2024, it became known that Giorgos Mazonakis was involved in a bitter legal dispute with his sister, Vasso, who had been his closest collaborator and a person he had completely trusted in previous years. The deep rift in their relationship also distanced him from his parents, as it was reported at the time that they had not taken his side.
Even before this, however, Mazonakis had already distanced himself from friends and acquaintances, greatly reducing the circle of people he interacted with. While in the nightlife industry rumors circulated that the 53-year-old singer had become a “difficult” partner, his successful television comeback with The Voice (where he was also expected to continue in the new season starting filming in September) brought him back into the public eye and improved his spirits.
When He Spent 9 Days in Penteli Psychiatric Hospital Before Military Service
In 2021, Mazonakis spoke to Antonis Sroiter about the time he joined the army and spent his first days at the 414 Penteli Psychiatric Hospital:
“They take me in as a soldier. I report for duty… I spend the first nine days at the 414 Penteli psychiatric hospital, and you can imagine that everyone was in my room.
At that time, I told them I had severe agoraphobia, and what scared me most was how I would handle being around strangers. That’s what I explained to them. They put me there, thinking maybe I’d get a deferment.
The story didn’t end well because I didn’t get the deferment, and I entered the army. They told me I was fine and that my agoraphobia would go away. I had a hard time in the army because we didn’t have forks, I was behind bars, I had specific visiting hours — it wasn’t the best experience.”
The Concert Interruption
It is recalled that in June 2025, Mazonakis interrupted a concert he was giving at the “Chalkanoras Idaliou” stadium (Dali), in Nicosia, due to an incident among audience members. From the stage, he was looking for the “lowlifes” and the “tough guys,” as he called them, who had caused the trouble.
After the incident, Mazonakis said he enjoyed the concert and that, for him, the important thing is respect among those present at a venue or event:
“I had a great time. Did something happen? Why should I be put off? That was a small thing, and I gave it too much attention. People should respect others, nothing more. Sadness is a big thing. I’ve been through so much sadness that this was the least of it.”
The Dispute with His Sister Vasso
It should be recalled that in October 2024, Mazonakis filed two lawsuits against his sister, stemming from the dispute that had erupted between them. According to his lawyer, his statement came after filing two accounting lawsuits at the Athens Court of First Instance against all those responsible for the financial disputes with his sister, Vasso.
“Everything comes around,” the singer said at the time, adding: “The wound inside me is the damage to my trust in people I considered my own.”The Beginning of the Dispute
The dispute between the siblings leaked to the media in May 2024, when Mazonakis’ lawyer spoke of a “major legal conflict” with his sister, who was not named, “to safeguard his financial status and professional career.”
Until 2019–2020, Vasso Mazonakis served as his manager and handled the artist’s finances and property. The first rumors of tensions between them surfaced in 2014–2015, reportedly also due to the singer’s finances, but this was quickly resolved at the time.
Mazonakis appeared to have complete trust in his sister, who was present at the venues where he performed until the 2019 season. However, from 2021, when the popular singer began appearing at Kentro Athinon with a Thursday slot in his schedule — something that sparked various comments at the time — his sister was no longer present, and his management passed into other hands.
