Tom Holland has once again shared his admiration for Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated film Odyssey, whose production wrapped this past August after six months of filming in locations around the world. Immediately afterward, Holland shifted gears to begin work on his next Marvel adventure, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Playing Telemachus in Nolan’s cinematic retelling of The Odyssey, Holland told AFP that the script was “the best I’ve ever read.” He praised Nolan as “a true collaborator,” adding:
“He knows exactly what he wants, but it’s not the kind of environment where you can’t contribute ideas or develop your character in meaningful ways.”
Following the worldwide success of Oppenheimer, Nolan’s next project has already generated global buzz. At the heart of Odyssey is Matt Damon as the legendary Odysseus, chronicling his perilous journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The star-studded cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Robert Pattinson as Hermes, and Charlize Theron as the sorceress Circe. Additional cast members include Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, and John Leguizamo.
In a July interview with GQ Sports, Holland called filming Odyssey “the greatest job of my life, without a doubt” and “the best experience I’ve ever had on a movie set.”
“I think this film will be a completely new kind of experience for audiences,” he said. “Working with Chris, getting to know him and [producer] Emma Thomas, was incredible. I’ve never seen anyone work the way they do. Having a front-row seat, being part of the process, collaborating with a true master of his craft, and learning from him—it was the best experience I’ve ever had.”
As for Spider-Man, Holland is currently filming his fourth solo outing in the Marvel universe, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Speaking to AFP, he noted that he still feels “just like the first time.”
Odyssey is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026, via Universal Pictures. Two weeks later, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will follow on July 31, 2026, released by Sony, according to Variety.
