The Israeli army announced that it struck a high-rise building allegedly used by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza City, after Israel said it was preparing to take control of the city.
“Inside the building, Hamas had set up infrastructure in order to prepare and launch attacks against Israeli army soldiers in the area,” according to the military’s statement.
Before the strike, “precautionary measures were taken in order to limit harm to civilians, including prior warnings to the population, the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and intelligence gathering,” the statement added.
The 12-story building – called the “Mushtaha Tower” – that was hit by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is one of the tallest in Gaza City.
According to Al Jazeera, the attack caused extensive destruction, while several injured civilians were transported to al-Shifa hospital to receive medical care.
