The new version of Gov.gr Wallet, which for the first time integrates key functions of gov.gr along with significant new features, was presented today, September 25, by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, at a press conference at the Ministry of Digital Governance.
Aiming to enhance the user experience, the Gov.gr Wallet now has a simpler and more user-friendly design, making everyday interactions easier for all citizens. The wallet is strengthened with new features that will continue to expand, with the goal of becoming one of the main points of citizen-state interaction by 2027. Citizens will be able to access public services and information directly from their mobile phones.
Key features of the new Gov.gr Wallet:
- Digital Assistant mAigov: The first AI application of the Greek public sector, which answers citizens’ questions about public administration and includes action bot capabilities. Citizens can quickly issue a Declaration of Responsibility by typing or dictating the text and recipient, as well as a Marriage Certificate, which will automatically appear and be stored in the “Citizen’s Inbox.”
- Citizen’s Inbox: Provides immediate access to new documents or notifications from public administration.
- Search for digital public services: Using keywords or “life events,” similar to gov.gr.
- Personal Number access: Secure access to citizens’ Personal Number, preventing storage via screenshots. If not issued, the app links directly to gov.gr to obtain it.
- National Communication Registry: Manage personal contact details.
- Emergency SMS to 112: Sends location coordinates from the device in emergencies.
- Document authenticity verification: Scan gov.gr documents to verify authenticity.
Additionally, the app features a redesigned home screen consolidating all main points of the application for easier navigation.
Available documents and uses:
Citizens can install Gov.gr Wallet via the App Store, Google Play, or Wallet.gov.gr. Currently, ten documents are available in the wallet:

- Driver’s license
- Digital Disability Card
- Digital Unemployment Card (DYPA)
- Ring Road access permit for Athens
- Vehicle details (MyAuto)
- Academic ID
- Insurance capacity
- Speedboat license
- Pet registration
The wallet is also used for digital identification of sports fans for entry into football and basketball games.
Minister’s statement
Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou said:
“From today, citizens can have the new Gov.gr Wallet on their mobile phones, the most popular Greek public sector app. What began during the pandemic as a solution for identification is now becoming a key point of citizen-state interaction. With the new Gov.gr Wallet, we take another important step toward a more modern and effective state. Emphasizing personal data protection, we place the ‘Citizen’s Inbox’ at the center as a unique and secure communication channel, integrate the digital assistant mAigov for faster, personalized service, and provide a special framework to access their Personal Number at any time. This is only the beginning. We will continue adding new capabilities, integrating property information, professional details, and dynamic document updates—building step by step a digital state that supports and earns citizens’ trust.”
