“It wasn’t a secret. They’ve been living apart for some time. People close to Keith felt the separation was somewhat inevitable,” a source told People magazine shortly after the news broke.
The 58-year-old actress and the 57-year-old country singer married in 2006 and have two daughters, 17-year-old Sunday Rose and 14-year-old Faith Margaret. Their last public appearance together was last June at the FIFA World Cup 2025 match between Los Angeles Football Club and Esperance de Tunis in Nashville.
A few days later, Kidman celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary with an Instagram post — a black-and-white photo of her embracing Urban with the caption: “Happy anniversary, my love.”
The couple had a particularly busy summer. Kidman wrapped filming Practical Magic 2 in London, while Urban was on his High and Alive world tour. Another source told People that Kidman’s sister, Antonia Kidman, “has been a rock” for her during this difficult time. “The whole family has come together to support each other. Nicole didn’t want this separation. She fought to save the marriage,” the source said.
In a 2018 interview with People, Kidman spoke about keeping love alive:
“I think it’s about knowing you must continue to contribute to what we call ‘us.’ You ask, ‘Does this suit us?’ When you create an ‘us,’ it belongs to both of you — it’s something you build together. No one else has it. It’s just between the two of you.”
Urban, in turn, praised Kidman during a touching speech in April 2024 when she was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award. He spoke of her “heart and spirit” and said meeting her felt like “meeting a real princess.” He added with a laugh: “And yet, I managed to get her phone number written on a tiny scrap of paper. I was scared. I was nervous to call her. But I did — and as you can probably guess, I found the courage to call her.”
