Organ transplants: The email that gives every Greek the chance to become a hero

In recent days, Greeks have been receiving emails from the Ministry of Health and the National Transplant Organization (EOM), encouraging them to become organ donors

Newsroom October 8 09:29

“If one day we or someone we love needed a transplant to continue living, wouldn’t we wish that someone had made this brave decision? This is the question now read by more than a million citizens who have already received an email about organ donation and transplantation.

The goal of the Ministry of Health is to further strengthen organ transplantation in Greece. Within this effort, since last Friday the ministry has begun sending out these emails to all citizens — a process expected to be completed within the week.

The new informational message serves as a concise guide: it clearly explains what organ donation is, why it concerns all of us, and how—through a simple declaration of intent—anyone can register as a donor. The email highlights the dual nature of transplantation: a highly specialized medical procedure, but above all, a deeply human act of solidarity.
