Hsiao appeared to enjoy every moment, as he not only received a hero’s welcome but also experienced the electrifying atmosphere created by Aris supporters at the “Palais.” One particularly emotional moment came when Nikos Galis appeared and warmly embraced the new club owner.
“I believe we’ll see change and renewal in the team. I wish the best to the new owner. Personally, I want to welcome him to the Aris family and hope we can relive the great moments of the past,” said the legendary “Gangster” Galis before tip-off.
Who Is Richard Hsiao, the New Owner of Aris BC?
Born in the United States in 1999 to a Taiwanese family, Hsiao has a lifelong passion for sports, particularly basketball. He is the founder of RCH Group, a sports and entertainment investment fund focused on professional sports and mental wellness.
RCH Group consists of RHC Investments Holdings and RCH Initiatives, the latter serving as the group’s philanthropic branch. Hsiao is also the founder of J17 Capital Inc., a venture capital firm with a portfolio spanning early-stage consumer technology and SaaS companies.
A firm believer in the power of sports and community, Hsiao aligns his fund’s mission with initiatives that strengthen and empower athletic development.
A Close Friendship with Giannis Antetokounmpo
Hsiao isn’t just a Milwaukee Bucks supporter—he’s a superfan and close friend of Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family. He holds one of the most expensive courtside seats at the Fiserv Forum and frequently travels with the team to away games, often sitting next to Bucks owner Wes Edens.
His enthusiasm for the team even drew the attention of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where he once said:
“I’m just an ordinary person. People are curious about me, but I’m nothing more than a fan of the game.”
His relationship with the Bucks began through a friendship with the team’s former owners Marc Lasry and Jamie Dinan during the 2020–21 championship season. Over time, his bond with Giannis and Thanasis grew stronger, and he has since visited Greece multiple times.
“I don’t own shares in the Bucks or have any business dealings with them,” he clarified. “What I have is a genuine friendship with Giannis, Thanasis, and their family.”
“Investing in the NBA Is My Big Dream”
Though his company is based in New York, Hsiao lives in Toronto. He founded J17 Capital in July 2020, inspired by the lifestyle changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I talked with my family, and we decided to invest in talented people,” he said. “We focus on high-tech, business and consumer technology, crypto, and blockchain.”
Hsiao’s passion for basketball is evident—he also holds premium season tickets with the Brooklyn Nets, and he never hesitates to travel anywhere in the U.S. to watch a game.
“Investing in an NBA team is one of my biggest goals,” he admits. “I’m not ready yet—I still have a lot to learn—but maybe in five or ten years, who knows? It’s not just about business; it’s about love for the sport.”
For Hsiao, investing in Aris BC is a personal challenge. Once he learned about the club’s history, he was captivated by the idea. He believes Aris possesses everything he was looking for: a strong brand, a loyal fan base, a respected name in European basketball, and passionate supporters hungry for success.
He and his team are already developing a five-year plan to rebrand and rebuild the club’s image and performance, aiming to restore Aris to its former glory.
