Mitsotakis: Blatant fake news from the opposition about the supposed general imposition of 13-hour workdays – The new law benefits workers

Apart from labor issues, the Prime Minister focuses on measures that directly affect daily life, such as cheaper heating oil, with a subsidy of up to €1,200: The first installment will be paid before Christmas – Interventions in Health and Justice, and measures for road safety

Newsroom October 19 10:27

The past week was full of interventions with measures that directly touch everyday life: from controlling price hikes and cheaper heating oil with subsidies of up to €1,200, to the new labor framework that was passed with broad consensus.

This is what Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasizes in his regular Sunday post.

He places particular emphasis on the labor bill, which was passed last Thursday. “Many false rumors were spread about this bill by the opposition, but I will give you one single fact that confirms its beneficial nature: out of approximately 100 articles in the bill, an expanded majority of MPs from various parties — including the opposition — voted in favor of at least half of them,” he notes.

He adds: “PASOK alone voted ‘present’ and ‘yes’ to 70 out of about 100 articles. In essence, it agrees that two-thirds of the new law benefits workers and the labor market. And indeed, that’s what it does — providing more options for workers and strengthening the balance between flexibility and security,” he emphasizes.

“The most blatant of the opposition’s fake news about this bill was the supposed general imposition of a 13-hour workday. It was said many times, but the provision in question already applies when work is provided to two employers, and now it simply extends as an option when work is provided to one employer. It is allowed only by exception and within specific limits — that is, up to three days per month. The employee’s consent is mandatory for any overtime, and refusal cannot lead to dismissal,” the Prime Minister further notes.

Mr. Mitsotakis also points out that technical education through Vocational Training Academies is progressing, along with targeted support for the primary sector, while housing assistance is being established for those affected by wildfires.

In Health, the upgrade of the National Health System (ESY) is reflected in new infrastructure at the “Attikon” hospital; in Justice, digital publication of wills is starting and case processing is being accelerated; and in road safety, cross-checks for uninsured vehicles are being activated.

At the same time, culture and sports are being strengthened through the digital archive of Tatoi and extensive works at Kaftanzoglio, Alexandreio, and OAKA stadiums.
