Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday that US President Donald Trump‘s proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine war on the basis of the existing front lines is a “good compromise.”
However, he expressed doubts about the likelihood that Russian President Vladimir Putin would support it.
Trump’s proposal, under which Ukraine would have to cede the Donbass region and make territorial concessions, had previously sparked a backlash.
In his statement on Wednesday, Zelensky said that while he sees Trump’s proposal as a “good compromise,” he finds it difficult for Putin to support it.
Meanwhile, a statement signed by European leaders on Wednesday stressed that negotiations should start from “the current line of contact.”
