A 32-year-old migrant woman gave birth to her seventh child last night at Venizeleio Hospital in Heraklion, but the newborn remains in critical condition and was transferred to the neonatal unit for further care.
The woman, who has diabetes, was part of a group of 57 migrants who arrived in Ierapetra in recent days.
At the same time, migrant arrivals on the southern coast of Crete continue unabated.
This morning, a boat carrying 27 people reached Kalos Limania in the municipality of Faistos, southern Heraklion.
According to reports, all passengers are from Sudan, including three women and five children aged two to eight.
Authorities remain on high alert, as daily arrivals continue, creating new challenges for the management and provision of first aid to migrants.
