Weather: Parades with sunshine and a slight drop in temperature – Where rain is expected

Yesterday, the thermometer in Crete showed over 33°C, while there were storms in Thessaloniki – The HNMS forecast up to Saturday

Newsroom October 28 08:49

In contrast to yesterday’s unstable weather in Thessaloniki, where the student parade took place under torrential rain, today’s events across most parts of the country for October 28th are expected to be held under good weather conditions, according to meteorologists.

As Klearchos Marousakis reports, a few weather phenomena may occur over the eastern and southeastern Aegean until early afternoon, though nothing significant. Temperatures will be high, especially in southeastern and southern Greece, with the thermometer showing 25–27°C.

In a post, meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias notes that the weather will be an ally for both student and military parades, providing ideal conditions for people to go outdoors between 12:00 and 15:00. Specifically, temperatures will be around 18°C in Thessaloniki, 22°C in Athens, and 20°C in Patras, while in Heraklion, Larissa, and Volos the thermometer will reach up to 23–24°C. The only cooler exception will be Ioannina, where the maximum temperature is forecast at 16°C. The weather will generally be clear, with a few local clouds mainly in western and northern areas, but without threatening the festivities.

According to ERT meteorologist Anastasia Tyraski, the weather is improving significantly across the country today. Only the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese are expected to see local showers, mainly in the morning hours. In the rest of the country, the weather will be clear and sunny, with temperatures slightly above seasonal averages. Some increased cloudiness may appear over western mainland areas. Winds will shift to westerly-northwesterly, up to 6 Beaufort.

Very high temperatures in northern Crete on Monday – Thermometer at 33–34°C
Very high maximum temperatures were recorded in northern Crete on Monday, October 27, 2025, with the thermometer reaching 33–34°C.

As additional data show, the maximum temperature exceeded 25°C at 268 of the 550 active stations in the network (around 49%).

Today’s weather

In the western and northern parts of the country, as well as the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese, temporarily increased cloudiness is expected, with a few local showers mainly in the west and the Dodecanese. From midday, rain and possibly thunderstorms will develop in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean. During the night and early morning, visibility will be locally limited, and fog will form.

Temperatures will range:

  • In Western Macedonia: 3–18°C
  • In the rest of Macedonia and Thrace: 6–20/22°C
  • In Thessaly: 7–24/26°C
  • In Epirus: 7–19/20°C
  • In the rest of mainland Greece: 10–22/24°C
  • In the Ionian Islands: 13–21°C
  • In the northern Aegean islands: 11–20°C
  • In the rest of the Aegean and Crete: 16–23/24°C

Winds in the Aegean will blow from the northwest at 4–5 Beaufort, and in the southern seas from west-northwest with similar strength. In the Ionian, winds will be north-northwesterly at 4–5 Beaufort. A westerly flow up to 6 Beaufort will prevail in the Corinthian Gulf.

Attica (Athens region): Sunshine with a few scattered clouds. Winds mostly westerly at 3–4 Beaufort, up to 5 Beaufort in western areas and locally 6 Beaufort along the western coasts. Temperatures between 15 and 23–24°C.

Thessaloniki: Periods of increased cloudiness. Winds from the northwest at 3–4 Beaufort. Temperatures between 13 and 20–21°C.

Weather on Wednesday, October 29

Generally clear weather over most of the country. A few clouds until noon, mainly inland. Visibility locally limited, especially in western areas during morning and evening hours.

Winds: variable and light in the west, from the north at 3–5 Beaufort in the east, and locally up to 6 Beaufort in the southern Aegean.

Temperatures will drop slightly in the south — reaching 19–20°C in the north, 24–25°C in the Dodecanese and Crete, and 21–22°C elsewhere.

Weather on Thursday, October 30

Generally clear skies. From early afternoon, high clouds will move in from the west and gradually thicken. Visibility locally limited, mainly in the west during the morning hours.

Winds: southerly in the west, northerly in the east at 3–4 Beaufort.
Temperature: slight rise expected.

Weather on Friday, October 31

In the Ionian, western, and northern mainland areas, clouds will gradually increase, and local showers will develop in the Ionian during the night. Elsewhere, partly cloudy with periods of thicker cloud cover.
