“I don’t hate anyone — I just want the evil to stop,” says the mother of Evangelia Fragiadaki

A few hours after bidding farewell to her daughter, Vasiliki Fragiadaki said she bears no hatred toward anyone and pleaded for an end to the violence — while the 56-year-old’s sister claimed the family has been threatened with their house being bombed

Calls for an End to the Violence as Evangelia Fragiadaki Is Laid to Rest in Chania

In a mood of deep grief, relatives and friends said their final goodbyes to Evangelia Fragiadaki, who was killed in the violent clash in Vorizia. The funeral took place in Chania under heightened security, one day after the funeral for Fanouris Kargakis, another victim of the incident.

A few hours after her daughter’s burial, Vasiliki Fragiadaki, Evangelia’s mother, spoke to MEGA and pleaded for the cycle of violence to stop. “I’m not looking to provoke anyone,” she said. “I want the evil to stop here so there will be no more. I don’t hate anyone. They killed my daughter unjustly.”

Recalling the chaotic scene on Saturday, when the deadly confrontation occurred, she told reporters: “I was at home and then I went outside. They were taking the wounded and putting them into vans to go to the doctor.”

“We Were Never Provoked”

Evangelia’s sister, Georgia Fragiadaki, also spoke, insisting the family had not started the confrontation. “We never provoked them — they always provoke,” she said. Georgia claimed the dispute escalated after “they put dynamite in my nephew’s house,” and argued that her sister bore no responsibility for the violence. “We mourn my sister, who is not to blame for anything,” she added.

Describing her own injuries, Georgia said a bullet struck her arm as a car passed by: “I took the bullet in the arm, I turned my back and left. I went home.”

When asked who fired the shot that killed Fanouris Kargakis, she said: “I don’t know. I lost my sister unjustly.”

Complaints About Police Response and Threats

Relatives also voiced frustration over the police response. Georgia said emergency services were slow to arrive: “We called the police and they did not come within 15 minutes. Two officers arrived after one and a half hours and said a team from Chania would follow. They then came.” She expressed fear for the community and claimed there have been threats against the family’s home: “They are threatening to bomb our house.”

Authorities have not released definitive findings about the sequence of events or the identities of all those responsible. Investigations are ongoing, and police have made arrests and are conducting searches in the area.
