In the wake of the bloody brawl in Vorizia Heraklion, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis announced that in the coming days, there will be announcements from the prime minister on gun control. Speaking to Mega, Marinakis also revealed that there are plans to permanently establish the Organized Crime Directorate in Crete to better deal with such phenomena.
“Possibly in the next two to three days, we will have announcements from the Prime Minister, because of his background, about specific initiatives and in the area of gun ownership, the way licenses are given. These announcements will not be empty words because he is the prime minister during whose time the greatest successes have occurred in the part of the protection of citizens, without meaning that there is a government that will press a button and eliminate crime, “noted the government spokesman.
Referring to the new US ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Gilfoil, the government spokesman noted: “He is an ambassador with a heavy resume, he is coming to stay and support Greece’s strategic relationship with the US.”
On the issue of ELTA, Marinakis described the decision as “necessary for the rescue of the service”, stressing: “It is another decision to save the ELTA, so that it does not close down.”
He also added: “90% of services are performed at home, 92% of supplements are delivered at home, so home is the way to go. They made a sensible decision. But you can’t communicate first and then explain. We’re going to assist; we’re not pulling our tail out. The decision is right and will be implemented. But special cases will be considered. We will see where there can be collaboration with private parties to ensure that the postman goes to every home. This service will be enhanced. There will be points that will replace stores. But be clear that there is no backtracking.”
Finally, referring to foreign policy and especially Greek-Turkish relations, Marinakis criticized those who, he said, indulge in “free patriotism,” calling for sobriety and responsibility in public debate.
