New deteriorating weather is forecast by the National Weather Service for today, Tuesday, November 18 and tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19, with strong rain and thunderstorms that will affect northwestern Greece, while a significant drop in temperature is expected from the weekend.
EMY issued an emergency weather bulletin, warning of locally heavy rain and thunderstorms that will mainly affect the northwestern part of the country in the next two days.
According to the forecast, the strong phenomena will occur in the northern Ionian Sea -especially in the areas of Corfu and Paxos- as well as in Epirus, while from the midday hours of Tuesday they will extend to the western and northern parts of Etoloakarnania.
Meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas said that “heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected today and tomorrow, mainly in the northern Ionian Sea and Epirus, while from midday on Tuesday the phenomena will also affect the western and northern parts of Aitoloakarnania”. As he explained, the temperature will remain at the same level until Friday, while from the weekend a significant drop in temperature is expected throughout the country. The transport of African dust, according to the latest data, will not be significant.
For his part, meteorologist Klearhos Marousakis noted in a post that “autumn weather is gradually returning, with winter arriving a breath away from our country at the end of the week, as predicted by our global forecasting system “Heracles”.”
According to the available forecast data, the bad weather will gradually diminish from Thursday, but the temperature change that will follow over the weekend will be noticeable, with the mercury dropping to unseasonably low levels. Authorities are urging caution to residents of affected areas, especially those operating in marine and mountainous areas.
