In an atmosphere of deep emotion and respect, the family of Vardis I. Vardinoyannis honoured his memory—one year after his passing—at the Athens Concert Hall. The tribute evening offered a comprehensive retrospective of the life and legacy of the distinguished businessman and benefactor, attended by state and political leaders, public figures, and individuals who collaborated with or were close to him over the decades.
Among those present were the President of the Hellenic Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas and his wife Fani Stathopoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife Mareva Grabovski, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, Opposition Leader Nikos Androulakis, Speaker of Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, former Presidents Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prokopis Pavlopoulos, former Prime Ministers Kostas Karamanlis, Panagiotis Pikrammenos, and Alexis Tsipras, political leaders, the full leadership of the Armed Forces, ministers, MPs, prominent business figures, public personalities, as well as executives and employees of the Motor Oil Group.

The event opened with remarks by the Chairman of the Motor Oil Group, Yannis V. Vardinoyannis, who spoke with deep emotion about his father:
“A patriotic Greek who served the Navy with honour. His discipline, perseverance, and dedication to duty accompanied him throughout his life. After the Navy, he devoted himself to the world of business, working with diligence, insight, and wisdom. He never sought the spotlight; he viewed entrepreneurship as a responsibility. Behind every success, however, was his humanity. He helped quietly, instinctively, without many words. For him, helping one’s fellow human being and one’s country was a duty of the soul. As his son, I feel deep gratitude and pride. He was and remains a model for my life.”
The President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, addressed the audience, stating:
“The stature, prestige, and reach of a strong man are measured by the hand he extends to the powerless. Vardis I. Vardinoyannis knew this well, just as he knew that offering assistance should never be ostentatious, but modest—always with humility and seriousness. He believed that care for one’s country is inseparable from care for one’s fellow citizen.”

The course of his life and the facets of his personality—the Cretan, the Naval Officer, the Businessman, the Benefactor, the Father, the Man—were presented in a uniquely evocative way.
The artistic supervision and direction of the event was by George Nanouris, with actor Dimitris Lalos serving as narrator.

Particularly symbolic was the participation of the Hellenic Navy Band, honouring Rear Admiral (ret.) Vardis I. Vardinoyannis, as well as the strong presence of Cretan tradition through performances by Vassilis Skoulas, Nektarios Bouchlis, and the Vrakoforos Group of Crete. Personal testimonies from figures in the Church, academia, the sciences, the Navy, business, Crete, and the international community shed light on his multifaceted journey.

The event concluded with overwhelming emotion, underscoring the indelible legacy, humanity, and lasting contribution of a great Greek whose impact on the country’s business, economic, and social life remains profound.
