Anadolu Efes is turning to Luca Banchi for its head coaching role. Banchi previously served as the team’s head coach from 7 January 2025 until the end of last season, and the club’s management now has him at the top of the list to succeed Igor Kokoškov.
The fact that the Italian national team coach knows many of the players from last season — as well as the overall environment and structure of the club from his recent tenure — appears to carry significant weight in the management’s final decision.
Other coaches currently available on the market with EuroLeague experience include Giannis Sfairopoulos and Pablo Laso, while Andrea Trinchieri has reportedly reached a full agreement with Partizan, according to the Serbian site sportklub.
However, Efes will only turn to alternative solutions if Luca Banchi does not receive approval from the Italian Basketball Federation to combine his national team duties with a club coaching position.
Anadolu Efes currently sits 15th in the EuroLeague standings with a 5–8 record and, as part of Round 14, will face Real Madrid in Istanbul this coming Thursday (4/12, 19:15).
