Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis has been positioned forthe incidents that took place between farmers and police forces in Thessaloniki, stressing on the one hand that the government is in favour of dialogue and has taken decisions for the benefit of the vast majority of people in the primary sector. Still, on the other hand there can be no dialogue with images such as those circulated outside the airport “Macedonia“.
The statement of the government spokesman
“From the very first moment, we have stressed that the Government is in favour of dialogue with farmers, as with any professional group. Indeed, we have demonstrated that we do not stop at words, taking decisions in the interests of the vast majority of people in the primary sector, namely legitimate farmers and livestock farmers.
Dialogue, however, can in no way take place at a time when serious incidents are taking place, such as those we saw outside the Macedonia airport in Thessaloniki or attacks against the forces of the Greek Police, which resulted in the injury of a policeman.
The state will not tolerate any offensive behaviour. The law will be enforced.”
