A 17-year-old student who was diagnosed with bacterial (microbial) meningitis after a five-day school trip to the Czech Republic is being treated at Chania General Hospital and is out of danger.
More specifically, according to information from ertnews.gr, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) informed the school, which in turn sent a detailed notice to parents and guardians. The incident was also reported to the Directorate of Secondary Education of Chania.
As EODY notes, at this stage no additional measures are required beyond strict compliance with personal and environmental hygiene rules. In particular, thorough handwashing, avoiding crowding in the school environment, and maintaining cleanliness in areas used by students and teachers are considered sufficient.
At the same time, it is clarified that disinfection of school premises is not recommended, as it does not contribute to preventing the transmission of the disease.
EODY also emphasizes that there is no need to close the school and that healthy students can continue attending classes and activities as usual.
Special emphasis is placed on checking the vaccination coverage of students and teachers, in accordance with the National Immunization Program, as a key measure for protecting public health.
