Meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas notes that the transition into 2026 is expected to be calm in weather terms. While atmospheric conditions over Europe and the Mediterranean reflect a typical winter pattern with some variability, current data do not indicate extreme phenomena.

From Saturday, December 27, through the end of the year, the weather will remain generally winter-like, with alternating cloud cover and sunny intervals. Winds are not expected to cause problems, and any local rainfall will be limited and mostly weak.

Temperatures will stay close to seasonal averages, without strong cold spells, particularly in lowland and coastal areas.

New Year’s Day Forecast

On January 1, weather conditions are expected to be generally stable, with no rain in most parts of the country. Cold conditions will mainly be noticeable during the early morning and nighttime hours, but no extreme temperatures or events are forecast.

Recent Rainfall in Eastern Thessaly

On December 26, heavy rain affected parts of Eastern Thessaly and Evia, particularly eastern Pelion and the Northern Sporades. According to data from the National Observatory of Athens (meteo.gr), the highest recorded rainfall was in Zagora, Pelion, with 145 mm by late afternoon.

By contrast, Portaria, on the western slopes of Mount Pelion at a similar altitude, recorded just 14.6 mm, highlighting the influence of local terrain on rainfall patterns.

Outlook

Overall, the weather pattern points to a calm and manageable start to the new year, with winter conditions present but without severe or disruptive phenomena. More variable weather remains possible during the first days of January.
