Russian tycoon dead after his helicopter became entangled in cables and crashed (video)

Ilias Gimatudtinov, the owner of a major transport company, is dead, while it is reported that there was no permit for the specific flight

Newsroom January 7 05:53

A video circulating online shows the moment a helicopter in Perm, in Russia’s Ural Mountains, crashes after becoming entangled in power lines.

In the footage released by the Russian television network RT, the dark-colored helicopter can be seen flying at a relatively low altitude, getting caught in the cables and then crashing onto the snow-covered ground in Asatli Park.

As a result of the impact, the helicopter’s two occupants are reportedly dead. One of them was Russian millionaire Ilias Gimatudtinov, founder of the transport company Tattranskom, based in Perm, and the other was Elmir Konyakov, an executive of the same company.

No permit for the flight

Moreover, Russian media reported that the helicopter was a Robinson R44 Raven, owned by the company, and was carrying out an unauthorized flight.

In a further update, Russia’s Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office released video from the crash site showing that the helicopter had become entangled in cables.

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Initial indications suggest that it may have become caught in overhead power lines before crashing, although EMERCOM has not publicly confirmed this detail.
