Davos: Von der Leyen calls for unquestionable respect for the sovereignty of Greenland and Denmark

The European Commission president stressed the importance of sovereignty in talks with a US Congressional delegation at the World Economic Forum

Newsroom January 19 11:21

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated today in a post on platform X that during her meeting with a delegation from the United States Congress in Davos, Switzerland — on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum — she stressed, among other things, the need for “unquestionable respect for the sovereignty of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.” She explained that this is an issue of paramount importance for transatlantic relations.

She reaffirmed that the European Union wishes to continue working together with the United States, NATO, and other allies, in close cooperation with Denmark, to advance shared security interests.

Additionally, she stated that efforts aimed at achieving a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine were discussed during the meeting with the US Congressional delegation.
