Severe weather swept across much of the country yesterday, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms causing serious problems in both mainland and island regions. Large volumes of rain fell in a short period of time, leading to flooding on several islands, including Santorini—where central streets turned into rivers—and Lemnos.

Amid this stormy backdrop, a video that circulated on social media drew particular attention, capturing the harsh conditions at sea. The footage shows the passenger and vehicle ferry Blue Star Chios as it approaches the port of Diafani on the island of Karpathos, battling strong winds and heavy seas.

The video clearly illustrates the tremendous effort made by the ship’s captain and crew to safely secure the vessel at the port despite the adverse weather conditions. Powerful wind gusts made maneuvering extremely difficult, while relentless waves continually pushed against the ship, turning the docking process into a demanding and high-risk operation.
