Astoria is the new large-scale production coming to the stage of the Pallas Theatre on March 19, with an original script by Konstantinos Samaras and direction by Vasilis Mavrogeorgiou. It explores the dreams and contradictions of the Greek migrant, who finds himself struggling with fate in interwar New York.

There, in the Big Apple, Greeks built a new homeland of their own while keeping memories of their native land alive. This musical production sheds light—truthfully and emotionally—on the lives, dreams, and inner conflicts of the Greek migrant community as it attempts to put down roots in a foreign place.

At the heart of the story stands the Greek coffeehouse—a meeting place of confession and memory. There, Tasoula sings of the sorrows, dreams, and passions of an entire migrant community: people who left behind homelands, families, and lives in search of a second chance.

Love affairs, betrayals, conflicts of interest, and secret agreements weave a dense web of human stories, within which the young woman must confront the cost of survival and personal freedom.
