Mitsotakis at New Democracy’s pre-congress in Alexandroupoli: The fence will cover the entire Evros so that we are secure against any threat

“We made the decision to build a fence. Is Europe not giving us money? We will build it ourselves. And we built it and we will continue it,” the Prime Minister said at New Democracy’s second pre-congress in Alexandroupoli

Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated the government’s intention to extend the fence along the entire Evros region, speaking at New Democracy’s pre-congress in Alexandroupoli.

“The fence will cover the whole of Evros, so that we are permanently secure against any threat,” he stated, emphasizing that the decision to construct and expand it is a strategic choice of the government.

Referring to the events of 2019, the Prime Minister noted that Greece decided at that time to defend its borders against a “hybrid threat” from Turkey, using the available information and, as he said, preventing a situation with dramatic consequences for the country and for Europe. He stressed that the presence of European leadership in Evros marked a turning point in the European Union’s stance on protecting its external borders.

“We made the decision to build a fence. Is Europe not giving us money? We will build it ourselves. And we built it and we will continue it,” he said, pointing out that the government will strengthen all the means available to the army, the police, and civil protection to fortify the country.

“Some were more concerned with little Maria; no one dealt with Mrs. Artemis in the Evros Delta,” the Prime Minister said, insisting that the overwhelming majority of the Greek people support the government’s decision to pursue this “strict but fair migration policy,” Mitsotakis stated.
