A driver for the Italian Red Cross is accused of murdering five elderly women.

According to Italian media, the driver allegedly caused the deaths of five women, possibly using syringes containing air, which led to embolisms.

Based on the evidence so far, the victims were not critically ill patients, but were being transported from nursing homes to the hospital—and back—in order to undergo necessary medical examinations. The five deaths were recorded between February and November 2025.

The Italian press reports that the investigation began following complaints by relatives of the patients as well as colleagues of the accused. According to leaked information, prosecutors installed hidden cameras in the ambulance where the suspect worked and carried out the “seizure of sharp objects.” At the same time, three additional cases of suspicious deaths of elderly women are being investigated.

The Italian Red Cross announced that the 25-year-old has been temporarily suspended from his duties. He denies all responsibility and states that he has submitted evidence to prosecutors which he believes will prove his innocence.

“Two of the five deaths occurred up to ten days after the ambulance transfer,” the driver told reporters.
