A man in Thessaloniki has been sent to jail after he was arrested for domestic violence and, as soon as he left court, threatened again to kill his wife.
The defendant was found guilty by the Multi-Member Magistrate’s Court of domestic threat and the court handed him a five-month jail sentence without parole, so he is now being sent to prison.
In fact, it was decided that his appeal would not have a suspensive effect on the execution of the sentence, so he was sent to prison.
The latest incident occurred last Wednesday, shortly after the defendant was convicted by the same court for an earlier domestic violence case.
According to the victim’s testimony, when she left the courthouse, a few hours later, the man was outside her house and started banging on the door and shutters, demanding that she allow him to enter. “He was swearing and shouting that he would take revenge and ruin my life,” she testified, noting that she was terrified.
“He has an addiction with me and I am very scared for my life. He threatened to set me, the house and the car on fire. His eye was glazing over. He was moving the shutter and I was afraid he would break it to get in,” she said.
The incident was also confirmed by the sister of the victim, testifying before the court. She said that the accused started banging on the door and tried to break it down, while making threats to her sister’s life, while asking her why she had reported him.
“We are very scared, we are in danger. There is a disabled minor child in the house. The accused is not giving my sister a divorce, even though she is persistently asking for it,” the witness added.
In his plea, the accused admitted that he was at his wife’s house, however, he claimed that he did not threaten her. “I went there because I have nowhere to go. I spoke to her nicely,” he claimed, but failed to convince the court.
