Residents in villages of the Municipality of Argithea in the Karditsa region experienced strong shaking from the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Evrytania a short while ago.
Speaking to protothema.gr, the Deputy Mayor of Argithea, Babis Poulios, said the tremor was strong and that he himself was inside his car when it occurred.
According to him, the powerful seismic vibration caused the road connecting the municipality’s administrative center, the village of Anthiro, with eight villages of eastern Argithea to become covered with rocks.
“At this moment I am heading toward those villages with machinery to clear the road from the stones that have fallen onto the roadway,” he said.
He added that there have been some rockfalls on the road toward Leontito, though without major problems, while the deputy mayor of the village reported that there is currently no serious issue there.
He also said he cannot communicate by phone with the villages of eastern Argithea because they have lost electricity.

“I was told that all those villages have no power after the earthquake, which is probably why I cannot reach them by phone,” he explained.
“They also informed me that the Holy Monastery of Spilia and some other buildings there have suffered damage from the seismic vibration. I am now heading to all these villages to assess the damage and help resolve the problems,” Mr. Poulios emphasized.
Father Nektarios from the Monastery of Spilia noted that cracks have appeared in the main church and other parts of the monastery, but clarified that the damage was not as severe as during the previous earthquake.
According to an announcement from the Municipality of Agrafa, no injuries have been reported, although material damage has been recorded in the village.
