From today, 1 April 2026, the new minimum wage comes into force, rising to 920 euros, recording a total increase of 41.54% compared to 2019.
Specifically, as of April 1, the minimum wage increases by 4.55% and is detailed as follows:
– For full-time employees, it increases by 40 euros, from 880 euros to 920 euros.
– The daily wage for blue-collar workers is increased from 39.30 euros to 41.09 euros, while for the public sector pay grades by 40 euros, following a horizontal increase of 70 euros in 2024 and an increase of 30 euros in 2025.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, from 2019, the cumulative increase reaches 270 euros per month or 3,780 euros per year, 4.2 to 5.8 salaries more, a 41.54% total increase from 2019.
The increase in the minimum wage and the daily wage directly affects about 700,000 jobs in the private sector, all civil servants, those who receive allowances and benefits calculated based on the minimum wage (e.g. maternity allowance, parental leave, unemployment), triennials, while the average wage is also indirectly affected.
As announced, the aim is to substantially strengthen the disposable income of citizens, within the strengths of the economy and fiscal possibilities. At the same time, the new dynamic conclusion of Collective Labour Agreements, in implementation of the National Social Agreement, the increase in workers’ wages as a result of the implementation of the Payroll Labour Card, as well as the reduction of unemployment to its lowest level in 18 years, constitute a coherent matrix of policies that strengthen work and disposable income.
