At the same time, the massive file formed by the Greek team of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office on the involvement of political figures in the illegal subsidies of the OPEKEPE is expected to be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, to be sent to the Parliament, as requests are made to lift the immunity of 11 MPs, the European Public Prosecutors have already forwarded to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office, another case file for two active members of the New Democracy Party, for whom there are indications of instigating an offence of misconduct, with the alleged natural perpetrators being executives of the OPEKEPE.
The file was forwarded by the European Prosecutors to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office of the Athens Prosecutor’s Office because the offence of breach of duty does not fall within their jurisdiction and, for this reason, the Athens Prosecutor’s Office will forward the file to the Parliament with a request to lift the immunity of the MPs.
As it became known, evidence of incitement to disloyalty has emerged in the context of the investigation conducted by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office for five other former MPs, who, however, because they are no longer covered by parliamentary immunity, will be directly invited by the European Prosecutors to give explanations as suspects.
Of course, this does not automatically translate into the five former MPs becoming defendants, as this will depend on the explanations they provide, which will be assessed by the European prosecutors.
To the Ministry of Justice
Now, from the content of the initial file, which is expected to be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, the names of the political persons who have already become known to the media and for whom the lifting of their immunity is requested are fully confirmed, while legal experts say that from the evaluation of the elements of the file (legal telephone interceptions of Mr.etc.) the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded that specific criminal offences have been committed (instigating the illegal subsidies etc.) for the MEPs involved and therefore requests the lifting of their immunity to prosecute them.
According to the dossier to be sent to the ministry, it emerges that of the 11 deputies, some are charged with felony charges, while most have misdemeanor charges and mainly include transcripts of telephone conversations, from the legal interceptions that took place, of OPEKEPE officials in 2021 and assessments for their criminal evaluation.
