The doctor who operated on Giorgos Mylonakis at Evangelismos Hospital spoke about his health condition. Efthyhios Archontakis, who performed the procedure on the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, who is hospitalized in the ICU after a stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm, stated, among other things, that the next 10 days will be critical.
As Archontakis said on ANT1, “the first days are difficult” and “certain risks must be overcome.” He stressed that doctors will have a clear picture of his condition after 10 days. “It will be 10 days of anxiety,” he explained. “We acted quickly, the aneurysm was immediately excluded,” said Mr Archontakis, who expressed satisfaction with the procedure performed.
He also said that international guidelines require doctors to act within 48 hours of the event, noting that the risk of rupture is higher in the first hours.
At this time, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is once again heading to “Evangelismos” hospital to be updated on the condition of his close associate. The Prime Minister had also visited the hospital earlier in the morning. Shortly before, he held a meeting in the VIP lounge of Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” with European Council President António Costa and is now on his way back to “Evangelismos”.
It is noted that Giorgos Mylonakis has undergone embolization of the aneurysm in order to stop the bleeding and remains intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of Evangelismos Hospital. According to the medical statement, his condition is serious but under control.
Everything happened around 9 a.m. on Wednesday (15/4), during the so-called “morning coffee” at the Maximos Mansion, the Prime Minister’s daily meeting with his closest associates regarding the day’s agenda. There, Giorgos Mylonakis suffered a fainting episode, and while attempts were made to revive him, an ambulance was called and transported him to Evangelismos Hospital.
“We are shocked because it happened in front of us. He has two children. He is full of energy and life. It happened in front of us during the morning coffee,” said Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis shortly afterwards.
Immediately after Mr Mylonakis was transferred to hospital, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Health Minister Marios Themistokleous arrived at Evangelismos, while around 11:30 the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also arrived and was (and continues to be) continuously updated on the health of his close associate.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, along with other ministers and close associates, visited the hospital to be informed about his health condition.
His wife, Tina Messaropoulou, remains at his side, while the next 48 hours are considered crucial for his recovery.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. during the Prime Minister’s regular morning briefing with close aides. Mylonakis reportedly collapsed, prompting immediate efforts to assist him and the calling of an ambulance, which transferred him quickly to Evangelismos Hospital — a short distance that proved critical for timely treatment.

Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis stated:
“We are shocked because it happened right in front of us. He has two children. He is full of energy and life.”
Following his transfer, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Health Minister Marios Themistocleous arrived at the hospital, while the Prime Minister visited shortly after.

Mylonakis was immediately subjected to imaging tests, which revealed a ruptured brain aneurysm. He was intubated and admitted to intensive care, where doctors proceeded with embolization — a minimally invasive procedure in which specialists access the aneurysm through the femoral artery using microcatheters and seal it off from blood circulation using materials such as coils. This method has been widely used over the past 25 years and carries fewer risks compared to open surgery.

According to the hospital’s director, the procedure was successful, but his condition remains serious though controlled. Doctors continue to monitor him closely in the ICU.
Earlier, the hospital’s medical bulletin stated that he was admitted following a severe fainting episode and is undergoing all necessary examinations.
Despite the successful procedure, the coming 48 hours are considered decisive for the progression of his condition, with medical staff closely observing his response.

Meanwhile, several ministers and associates visited the hospital to support his family, while the President of the Republic was also informed and expressed his concern.

His wife has not left his side, and close friends and colleagues have also gathered at the hospital in support.
