Confusion has been caused in Turkey by the attitude of 56-year-old math teacher Aila Kara, who died trying to protect students during the during the bloody attack at a school in Kahramanmaras, Turkey.

According to Turkish media, the teacher, a mother of three, was in the school’s hallway when she heard the shooting. Without hesitation, she rushed to the room where 5th grade students were and stepped forward to protect them.

According to the investigation, she tried to cover the children with her body, resulting in her being shot and fatally wounded. Her act has caused deep emotion in the education community, as the 56-year-old teacher was highly loved by students and colleagues.

The attack occurred when 14-year-old Issa Aras Mersinli, an 8th grade student, entered the school in possession of five pistols and seven magazines. The juvenile opened fire inside the classroom, killing a total of nine people, including eight students, and then committed suicide.

Several students were injured in the attack, seven of whom are hospitalized in serious condition, while others sustained minor injuries.
