The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, met with the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, at 12:00 noon at the Presidential Mansion.
The prime minister’s visit to the President took place in the context of their regular monthly briefings. During the meeting, the prime minister informed Mr. Tasoulas about all current developments following the visit of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to Athens.
“It was a visit with special symbolism; we reaffirmed the strong ties between the two countries,” Mr. Mitsotakis stressed, underlining that Athens and Paris share a common vision for the future of Europe.
The prime minister noted that, within the recent global geopolitical environment, “the Greek government has done its best to support Greek households, always within the framework of fiscal rules.”
For his part, the President of the Republic spoke warmly about Greece–France cooperation. “Our strategic relationship is also demonstrated by the well-known mutual assistance clause,” Mr. Tasoulas said, among other things.
“The policy of fiscal discipline and compliance does not distribute money carelessly and populistically, but protects the future from recklessness,” Mr. Tasoulas said, emphasizing that in the past “our country paid for such recklessness.”
After the statements in front of the television cameras, a private meeting between the prime minister and Konstantinos Tasoulas followed in his office at the Presidential Mansion.
