Instability returns in the next few hours, with local showers and thunderstorms, while the presence of African dust will also cause muddy rain in several areas over the weekend, according to meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias of protothema.gr.
Local hail is also not ruled out, mainly in the northern mainland.
Weather for the coming days
For today, Friday May 15, from midday onwards we expect rain in central and northern Greece and thunderstorms in Epirus and Macedonia, mainly in mountainous areas.
Temperatures will reach 27°C in the eastern mainland and 25°C in the Peloponnese and the Dodecanese. At night, in most lowland areas, temperatures will not fall below 16°C.
Winds in the Ionian Sea will blow from the southwest at up to 5 Beaufort. In the Aegean, winds will be southerly and westerly, reaching up to 7 Beaufort in the southern areas.
In Attica, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with a chance of light drizzle at midday in the northern parts of the region. Winds mainly from the south at up to 4 Beaufort, and temperatures ranging from 13°C to 25°C.
In Thessaloniki, rain is expected until the afternoon, though not very intense and occurring intermittently. Southeast winds up to 4 Beaufort in the Thermaic Gulf, with temperatures reaching 23°C.
Weather evolution
On Saturday (16/5), an atmospheric disturbance will bring rain and storms to most areas, except for the southernmost regions where rainfall will be limited. The phenomena may also be accompanied by hail, mainly in Epirus and Macedonia. On Sunday (17/5), the weather will improve.
Finally, over the weekend, African dust will return, with increased concentrations in southern Greece.
