Former MP Eleni Avlonitou is leaving SYRIZA. In a post on social media, she announced that as of today she no longer belongs to SYRIZA–PS and is reportedly moving toward the party of Alexis Tsipras, which is expected to be founded on 25/6.

Eleni Avlonitou, who attended Tsipras’ event at the Rematia Theatre in Chalandri for the “Ruling Left,” emphasized that her struggles will not end and will continue with the same enthusiasm.

Ms. Avlonitou’s post reads in detail:

“Dear friends,

As of today, I am no longer a member of SYRIZA–PS. I have been on the left and in the field of struggles for democracy, national sovereignty, social emancipation, and the elimination of social inequalities since my student days.

Of course, these struggles do not end with my resignation today as a member of the Central Committee, nor with my departure from the party itself, which I have served with dedication for more than three decades. They will continue with the same enthusiasm as in my early youth, because I feel I owe it to young people who are struggling with the living conditions we leave them to face. I accept my fair share of responsibility.

I want to thank from the bottom of my heart all of you who have honored me over the years in various positions of responsibility, both within the party and in society. I want you to know that I have always done even more than what I could to serve you, guided by my democratic principles and my deep solidarity with my fellow human beings, which I learned from my home and my teachers.

So, new beginnings, new struggles! We will meet again soon!”
