Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis distanced himself from Vasilis Fevgas following the New Democracy Secretary for Strategic Planning and Communications’ letter to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which included proposals aimed at securing New Democracy’s parliamentary majority in future elections.
In his letter, Mr. Fevgas reportedly proposed, among other things, repealing the law allowing same-sex marriage and reversing the expulsion of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras from the party.
Marinakis’ response
Speaking during the government’s regular press briefing today, the government spokesperson addressed the issue in response to a journalist’s question.
“Under no circumstances does Mr. Fevgas’ letter express the position of New Democracy. We will evaluate it. There is nothing of the sort in the government’s agenda.”
Asked whether Mr. Fevgas remains in his position as party secretary, Marinakis replied:
“As far as I know, yes. I have received no information to the contrary. It is not something worth commenting on.”
