Latinopoulou: The pre-trial detention of the police officers in Argos is unacceptable – Everything happened in the line of duty

Aphrodite Latinopoulou expressed the view that “the pre-trial detention” of the police officers who shot the 20-year-old in Argos, resulting in his death, “is clearly unacceptable,” adding: “I believe that everything happened in the context of their duty.”

“A police officer who joins the security forces does so because he wants to protect citizens’ lives. Did you hear that he tried to ram them with his vehicle? He tried to escape. If you do not want police officers to have weapons, then change the legal framework. Are they not under threat when someone tries to ram them? He tried to get away; the lives of the police officers were in danger. When he tried to ram them, was there no threat to life? If Mitsotakis does not want police officers to carry out their duty, to protect citizens’ lives and their own lives, if he believes that the lives of police officers have less value, then he should give them flowers and take away their weapons,” continued the president of the Voice of Reason party on MEGA, responding to journalists’ objections.

“It is not possible for a police officer, when carrying out his duty, to constantly be the one having to justify himself, and especially to be placed in pre-trial detention,” Ms. Latinopoulou added.

Regarding developments in the Marfin case, the president of Voice of Reason said:

“I have spoken about left-wing violence and terrorism, which unfortunately remains unpunished and is tolerated by governments. I am waiting to see what the results will be. The fact that so many years have passed and only now something is happening is, in itself, problematic. It obviously stems from left-wing violence and terrorism, which is growing in schools, universities, and the streets.”

In this context, she called for “Rouvikonas to be declared a terrorist organization, and this is long overdue.”

“There are no excuses, and we are sorry, those who govern bear responsibility. Arrests should be made for the blockades that shut down roads, arrests should be made for the street gangs that come out onto the streets, arrests at every demonstration that takes place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.”
