On Wednesday morning, Aphrodite Latinopoulou once again spoke about the incident involving Roma at the port of Tinos, describing the vile attack that she endured for 45 minutes, while adding that her mother, who was beside her during the incident, was terrified.

“I went with my mother on a pilgrimage to Tinos, and when we arrived at the port, 15–20 gypsies attacked me because we call them gypsies. It was a very clear attack. For 45 minutes I was subjected to a vile attack; they did not stop for a single minute, nor did the threats,” the president of Voice of Reason told MEGA.

As she said, “This is not the first time gypsies have carried out such attacks. Once again they are showing what they are like; they were swearing in front of their children.”

Describing what happened at the port of Tinos, Ms. Latinopoulou said: “My mother and I were sitting and talking. At one point someone approached me and said we should talk calmly, and I told them that if you do not commit crimes, then what I said does not concern you. I did not say everyone is the same. The attack started because they cannot have a discussion.”

Speaking specifically about her mother, she said: “She has never experienced anything like this; she is not a political figure. She was terrified and frightened because when you see 25–30 people approaching you, and one of them even tried to hit me… He grabbed my arm and kept telling me, ‘Stop it.’”

The president of Voice of Reason also stressed: “I do not tolerate such behavior, not only toward me but toward any citizen who wants to board a ferry. Where are the condemnations from the groups of lefties, the supposedly sensitive defenders of women’s rights? Where are all these people, where are the political parties? Dead silence. There is no equivalence between perpetrator and victim. Above all, I am a citizen. Such a vile attack against me and my mother—whom I place above everything else—should have been condemned unanimously, especially by all those who claim to put women above all else.”

The incident in Tinos

The heated verbal altercation took place in Tinos last Sunday, when the president of Voice of Reason came under verbal attack from Roma. The tension quickly escalated, and one man began hurling obscene insults at her.

Several men approached the Member of the European Parliament to express their objections because she speaks disparagingly about Roma. One of them reportedly told her, “We are not all the same.”

Aphrodite Latinopoulou replied that her statements referred to individuals who engage in delinquent behavior, mentioning, among other things, theft and electricity theft.

After Latinopoulou’s response, the discussion became increasingly heated, and some members of the group were heard directing obscene insults at her. “You called me a gypsy? Take this and go f…..,” one is heard telling her, before continuing by calling her “a wh…., go to Hell”. The president of Voice of Reason did not react to the extreme verbal abuse. She held her handbag tightly and simply said, “You’re all the same.”
