The charges against the three people arrested over the deadly arson attack on the Marfin bank branch on Stadiou Street in May 2010 have been further expanded. Three employees lost their lives in the attack, including a pregnant woman.
The three defendants have now been summoned to provide supplementary statements after additional criminal charges were brought against them, following a relevant request from the third regular investigating magistrate in Athens, who is handling the case file.
More specifically, following the investigating magistrate’s request, the Athens Prosecutor’s Office brought supplementary charges against the three defendants under Article 187A of the Criminal Code, concerning homicide committed in the context of terrorist acts, as well as attempted murder against 24 bank employees.
The defendants have been summoned to appear at the investigator’s office tomorrow, but they are expected to request an extension in order to study the new evidence and prepare their explanations in response to the supplementary charges.
Once the three defendants have given their statements, the investigation into the Marfin case will be completed, and the case file will be forwarded to the Athens Judicial Council of Misdemeanours, which will decide whether or not the defendants should be referred to trial.
