US authorities raided the home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in Washington in the early hours of Monday (October 12), as part of an investigation into immigration documents belonging to the Somalia-born lawmaker, Fox News Digital reported.
“Today, in the Washington area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a court-authorised search warrant obtained by the Department of Justice. This warrant execution is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a Department of Justice spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The news outlet stressed that the raid followed a criminal fraud investigation concerning the Minnesota congresswoman’s documents, which had been completed by her late father when she was a child.
The Democratic congresswoman is known for her left-wing extremist views. Omar is Muslim and a vocal critic of Trump.
Last week, Trump described Michigan’s Democratic candidate for the US Senate, Abdul El-Sayed, who is also Muslim, as a radical extremist and a terrorist sympathizer, while also expressing his support for Republican candidate Mike Rogers.
