Scenes of chaos in central Athens last night as ‘anti-state’ activists turned the area around the National Technical University of Athens (Athens Polytechnic) into a war zone. Makeshift molotov bombs were thrown at police forces in the area.
A number of cars were torched on Stournari Street, the side road adjacent to the university. Roads were cordoned off but a number of youths separated from a main rally of around 1,000 anti-state protestors marching towards Parliament on Tuesday. These youths burnt cars, broke the window of a bakery shop and caused damage to the area.
Riot police repelled them by using tear gas. Police intervention was restricted to the bare minimum, reports state.
