The Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens won the second place in the world at the Manfred LachsSpace Law Moot Court Competition representing Greece and European as European champion at the world finals which took place in Jerusalem, 13-15 October.
The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition is organised annually by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL). The competition is based on a hypothetical space law dispute before the International Court of Justice.
One of the team’s member Athanasios Plexidas was also awarded the Sterns and Tennen Award for Best Oralist, and Best Oralist of the Final Round.
The Greek team consisted of undergraduates students Ms. Marianthi Koutri, Ms. Maria Vasilaki, and Mr. Athanasios Plexidas, while two members of last year’s team, graduate student Harry Panagiotopoulos and undergraduate student Niki Kouri, helped the team to get properly prepared .
The Greek team received the praise of the International Institute of Space Law and three Judges: Peter Tomka (Slovakia), Dalveer Bhandari (India) and Kirill Gevorgian (Russia).
Since its first participation in 2011, the Law School has made a stunning course. It is ranked on the top places worldwide, since it is the only team with three participations in European finals, the only team that has won the European title twice and one of the two teams which have participated twice in world finals.
