Central Pelion in Greece was included as a new cultural destination at Geo Routes Cultural Heritage Journeys under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO. Pelion is the 26th new destination in Greece that is included on the list of experiential cultural and environment journeys that highlight unspoiled areas of Greece.
Due to its easy access, Pelion is considered a favorite year-round destination that offers both natural beauty, high cuisine and a rich cultural heritage from myths, legends and traditions.
In total there are three different three-day journeys available in the region of Magnesia and Mt. Pelion. The first journey that has already been launched is focused on Central Pelion – specifically on the village of Makrinitsa, Agios Georgios Nilias, Pinakates, Vyzitsa and Milies. Other highlights of the journey include the Archaeological Museum and the old Brickworks factory museum in the city of Volos, just a hop away from Pelion.
Associate partners of Geo Routes’ Mountain of the Centaurs’ journey include the 13th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities as well as other local cultural groups of Pelion.
