Conservative main opposition New Democracy (ND) candidate Apostolos Tzitzikostas headed to the voting center at I. Vellidis conference hall of the Thessaloniki International Fair shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday to vote in the party elections where he is one of four candidates vying for the leadership.
In statements made to journalists, Tzitzikostas said that there is a high level of participation for the elections of the conservative party from all around Greece. He underlined that “today we are turning a page at the New Democracy (party).”
“The ND supporters and friends of ND have taken the factions chances in their hands. Today we are turning a page, we are leaving behind all that hurt us, we are joining forces and moving towards a party that is open, modern, democratic,” he said. “For a party that is modern, European so that the country can get rid of the current government.”
